how do you set up a home server to stream video and music without download?
ok so i want to set a home server up that i can stream music and videos to other computers on my network and my friends over the internet and i want to be able to download files and such from anywhere like a remote server can i do it and how.
Grab an old computer out of someones closet. Something retired because it wont play the latest greatest windows games. That will be more than enough for a server. Then load a free copy of Linux on it. Linux loves being an internet server and there is tons of help on doing it out on the net.
You can set it up on your home networks outgoing address but it really smooths things out in my opinion if you get a dedicated IP address for the server from whoever your internet connection is.
I have a linux server running from my house. It has hundreds of email accounts for me and my friends, dozens of domain addresses, and it hosts online gaming worlds.
