building computer problem?

this is my first time building a computer and I really need help. When I plug in the power supply, the fan doesn't run and it seems no power is coming into the computer. I also have two wires (ribbons) audio and usb that are not connected to the motherboard. I think this is because the motherboard is too old, but i'm not sure.
Processor - Pentium II P2 333 mhz 333mhz Slot 1 CPU Processor SL2TV
Motherboard - ASUS P2L97 LX Pentium II Motherboard
Video card - 32MB PCI PC/Desktop Computer Video Graphics Card 32 MB
RAM - 256MB 168 Pin PC SD-RAM DIMM PC100 SDRAM Memory Modules
Case - 610 ATX COMPUTER CASE 450W AIR DUCT BLACK USB AUDIO NEW
Hard drive - Western Digital 200GB EIDE Internal Hard Drive
All the pieces do fit with the motherboard.
Any help?

There could be a number of things wrong.

Do you have the POWER wires from the front panel connected? You can't turn it on without that.

Here is the minimum to get it to turn on.
- video card
- CPU
- CPU Fan
- RAM
Connect the power supply and Power switch wire. Plug it in and turn on the power supply. Then press the ON switch. You might see the fan TWITCH for a moment. That would mean that you are on the right track.

Here is what might be BAD: (it could be any ONE or any OF): CPU, Motherboard, Fan, RAM, Video Card & Power Supply

You are right. For the first time, it might not be easy.
