Proc Heatsink
Could touching the thermal grease screw with my processor?
Yeah story, built a new computer, but while putting heatsink on proc, i touched the grease. and my computer, Wont even go into bios. I start it for like 3-5 seconds and it shuts back down. HOWEVER every once and awhile it will stay on long enough for the computer to beep. Asus motherboard with corsair 4 gig mem with amd athlon x2 6000.
Things ive tryd, checking the motherboard to make sure its not touching tray.
Unplugging everything unesary to keep the fans running.
Checked the power cords, everything is wired right.
Things i shouldnt have done:
Touch the thermal grease?
But i spreaded it back out?
Oh yeah and I attempted to turn it on like 50 times. So idk if that did damage as well. but its still doing the same thing is power on number 1 so i doubt it
technically, you shouldn't have touched it. all you did was lower the amount of heat your CPU moves from itself to the heatsink, just a little bit. From the way it sounds, however, it maybe several things. 1. Memory bad. 2. PSU bad. try and see if you cant test each memory stick out (like put 1 stick in and not the other) and see if it fixes itself.
