What Hardware should a server have and what internet connection should a server be connected to?
I want to build a small server and i don't know exactly what parts should i have.
It depends on what do you want to do with it.
Having your own server it's quite fun, I have one for myself, I use it to test web pages.
I have an Intel mainboard for a 2.8 Ghz P4HT processor with 512 MB, my load average is always 0.1 with about 1 to 2 thousand visits a day, 4 XEN servers and a LAMP powered service.
I'll recommend you to take any machine you have round there, install *NIX on it and attach it to a dynamic IP using DynDNS if you want to access it from outside.
Internet connections depends on how many traffic do you plan to receive. 2Mbps is quite good
