How do I know what hard drive to buy replace on this RAID server computer?
It's a Dell Poweredge 6600 and one of the hard drives have failed. I know it has a SCSI RAID configuration. There are probably somewhere between 5-10 hard drives. How do I know what hard drive to buy and replace? Can I remove the hard drive and put in a new one without any problems?
If you don't know which drive (physically) to replace you can run the raid configure tool to see which one 0-7 and then you can pull out a random hard drive and read the back for the pin-out configuration for that number. Then look at the pin-outs on each drive to see which one matches.
Depending on which raid you have, you probably just pull the drive and rebuild your raid without replacing. Or you can run the computer store and order a new SCSI drive with the same specs and then rebuild then. Make sure to use the same pin-out on the new drive as the old drive.

Ah, hot swappable makes it easy. Pull the drive, let it rebuild, but a new drive and install, let it rebuild.
