LAN connection getting 10 mbps only instead of 100 mbps?
Hi all,
I have a home network with 2 computers. I get my internet connection using a UTStarcom dsl router. I connected both systems to the router. In one system i get 100 mbps connection and the net speed is good. But in the second one i am getting only 10 mbps and net speed is very low. I have a realtech gigabit on board NIC in my 2nd system. My mother board is asus p5kpl am/ps.The first system is conencted using a 3 meter cable and 2nd one using a 17 meter cable. I tried solving the isuue by all methods i know like changing the NIC config parameters to override the autonegotiation to 1gbps but still the problem persists. What can be the problem? Please give me a solution.
I am experiencing a drop in internet speed due to this problem. I too had a notion lik "my net connection is only 2mbps so 10mbps would be good.". But the problem is that both lan speed and net speed is very low.
Did you test your cables? If you hard code the speed and duplex on the NIC, make sure the other end port is hard coded too. You might have a bad NIC too. Do you see any errors on the interface (run netstat -e -s)? Lots of reasons a card may not run at full potential. Keep troubleshooting! Or buy a new NIC, they are cheap now-a-days!
goo luck!
