Ethernet Switch
I would like to improve my Ethernet Switch performance?
Hi, I would like to improve the performance of my present 10/100 16 port Micronet ethernet switch. Do you have any ideas. All the ports are in use at the moment. Would it help if i plugged in another DLink 8 port 10/100 switch on a user perimenter node, and plugged some of the near buy computers to that switch ? The only thing i can imgine is that some of the traffic load will be reduced on the main switch.
Do you have any other ideas?

Do you have a main server? To improve performance on a switch you need to work out the traffic flow. Adding another switch could make things worse as the uplink is a possible bottleneck. If you are running a main server or internet access point on one switch then the majority of traffic will be going there. All the traffic on a second switch would then be concentrated through the uplink to get to the server or internet access point. Simplest way of improving perfomance is a new switch with better buffering. Next if you do have a server then get a server grade NIC with full duplex and make sure it is running Duplex.
